December 15th, the Shanghai MeteorJS meetup was held at Coderbunker. Coderbunker even before it was Coderbunker had participated to the global MeteorJS Hackathon a year ago. MeteorJS is is one of Coderbunker’s favorite development tool.
MeteorJS allows developers to quickly develop a web application. It integrates front-end and back-end development and is really easy for beginners with zero knowledge to build full fledged applications.
We had 2 talks by Freeman and Shuyu during the event: Freeman, an experienced developer and Shuyu who just started with MeteorJS.
From left to right: Freeman, Shuyu, Thimo and Luciano
Freeman, has been a developer since 2011. He is now working on a MeteorJS website project targeting for a manicure marketplace. Freeman is very excited about TDD (Test Driven Development) and CI (Continuous Integration). He does unit tests for all their NodeJS backend apis, and deploys their MeteorJS app multiple times a day using Codeship. All of their deployment is automatic, using Codeship and Github. He showed several tricks and best practices using MeteorJS, including how to take advantage of the real-time updating, and how to deal with security and payment issues with Stripe API. His projects can be seen from his website http://freemans.website/.

Shuyu's project demo
The second talk was presented by Shuyu. Shuyu is a member of Coderbunker, who originally worked in marketing for several years, and only recently switched into front-end development. During the meetup she demoed a flash-cards language learning website. Shuyu has spent around 10 days building this website, using MeteorJS and ReactJS. With this website, a user can login, create their own deck of flashcards and then play the flashcards to memorize the words. Applying MeteorJS and ReactJS in the project for the first time was challenging for Shuyu, but thanks to the help of Luciano and other Coderbunker members, she was able to deliver the website to her client on schedule.
